Socket to Offer Child Safe Access
October 4, 1999 - Socket Internet Services Corporation recently established Internet Content Filtering or “Child Safe” Access as an available option for customers. This means, without any special software, over 40,000 sites are blocked from being viewed through their connection.
What is filtered? The absence of clothing or exposing any and all parts of the human genitalia, except for “classical” or artistic nudity and swimsuit models. Any material that has been publicly labeled as being strictly for adults, descriptions or depictions of sexual acts and any erotic material are also blocked. In addition, graphic depictions of violent acts, adult language, encouragement of, tools for, or advice on carrying out universally criminal acts and sites that encourage or participate in the misuse or abuse of the Internet.
“The service was added because of customer demand,” according to Greg Baker, Socket’s Marketing Director. “Many parents, and our business customers, expressed concern with questionable content being easily accessible. Internet content filtering makes it impossible or at least a lot harder to view.”
The company does recommend and encourage parents to continue to monitor their children’s Internet usage, even with filtering in place.
